This is an update on the adventure of self publishing (as per my Christmas newsletter). To recap, my writing group, based on the Gold Coast, is called "The Ten Penners". We are a group of eight women (long story – used to be ten, now it's not!) who have put together a selection of children's fantasy stories called "Fan-tas-tic-al Tales". It is currently in the process of a final edit before going to the printer (hopefully Monday) for a launch in May. Only $20.00 people! Reserve your copy now!
What? No takers? Still, it was worth a shot.
I have several other short stories for children in various stages of completion, and also a mystery novel in the vein of Janet Evanovich – that is, hopefully it's funny! Janet Evanovich is the only mystery author I know who can make me laugh out loud anywhere. Sometimes its embarrassing because my laugh is pretty loud to start with, and when you start laughing to yourself people look at you funny. 🙂
One of my stories for "Fan-tas-tic-al Tales" is about a young teenage witch called Kylie Cooper. I have also been working on an idea for a young adult novel based on Kylie's ancestor, Esmeralda, a witch who lived in Australia in the 1800's. I think I might throw in a bushranger or two as well, having just seen Heath Ledger as Ned Kelly!! We have a fascinating history in this country, and I don't think enough of us know enough about it (including me). I have two daughters aged 14 and 11, and they both love historical and fantasy stories, so I'm hoping to combine the two.
So, if you're a publisher willing to risk a million dollar advance on an unknown but brilliant author, call me!!
Until next time…
